For Microsoft Windows, desktop changes are not “saved” immediately.
Open a command prompt and type:
taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
After the desktop disappears type:
explorer
Your desktop icons should now be restored to their original position.

Type these commands to restore the desktop icons:
DETAILS:
- You must not wait too long to use this technique.
You must NOT logout of Windows or do anything to exit Explorer normally.
This technique only works because it interrupts Windows opportunity to save the changes to the desktop in its normal manner.
You are essentially “crashing” the desktop program. If you wait too long, or exit the Windows desktop in a normal manner, Windows takes the opportunity to “save” your changes so that you can pick up where you left off.
WORD OF WARNING:
Ctrl-Z is ubiquitous in the world of computers for UNDO-ing human mistakes and experiments. Do not be tempted to use it for Windows interfaces. Windows does not assume a human is trying to undo something they are looking physically on the current screen. Ctrl-Z in Windows will generally undo the last disk operation (such as deleting, renaming, or moving a file), even if that operation occurred 2 days ago, and that UNDO will be completely invisible to you. If you use Ctrl-Z with Windows, you will likely become confused why your important files keep disappearing.
I was scrolling through my file explorer and I think I accidently dragged my Documents thư mục to the desktop thư mục. Now I’m not sure where it is supposed to be. When my usual scheduled backup ran, I received a message that this thư mục could not be backed up. The file explorer is very confusing since I see Documents (it looks like) in several places–I don’t believe the desktop one is a copy, however. How and where do I get it back to where it is supposed to go? Thank in advance.

I inadvertently dragged my User/Desktop Folder to my User/Documents Folder. Discovering my error, I dragged the thư mục back to my Places/User-trang chủ Folder in the Finder. As a result, an empty Desktop Folder remains in the Finder window (under my Places/User-trang chủ Folder) in addition to the fully-loaded Desktop Folder in my Places/User-trang chủ Folder. As things stand, I am unable to delete the empty Desktop Folder. Also, there now resides a an unexplained Contents thư mục on my desktop. It contains about 800 kb in data, including an Info.plist; a MacOS thư mục (containing a FAE4iphoto Unix Executable File); and a Resources thư mục. How do I return things to normal? I am not running Time Machine nor do I have a current Backup of the system, one that would return the system to the state it was in moments before the error occurred.

Sidebar items are just alias. Drag the folders off the sidebar first to eliminate any confusion. Do your moving of thư mục in your home thư mục. Once you have that cleared up, then drag back the folders to the sidebar that you want to see.
You can open up two Finder windows if this helps, from the GO menu, and drag and drop between the windows to straight out.
Under Finder–>Preferences–>Sidebar you can ☑ the standard sidebar icons visible. Hope this helps
